Dear Miss California...

Thank you for your honesty. Regardless of what people believe they should at least respect the fact that you have integrity. You should be proud of yourself for being who you are regardless of the circumstances.

Oh, I saw that -- what did she mean by "in my country" though? She probably just had a brain slip or something? -- much better answer than that poor girl's last year though (you know, the infamous geography question)...

I think there was no way to answer that question "correctly" (in the judges' view) without basically supporting same-sex marriage -- didn't the audience cheer when the questioner said Vermont was the 4th state to legalize same-sex marriage? (Does that make Iowa 5th? Crazy that we're one of the first!) Questions like that seem sort of like trick questions. I also think they should give them a longer time to answer, but I suppose it's just like politics. How much can you really say in that short of time? If you say anything other than popular opinion, you're not given a chance to defend yourself and are ostracized. And so we (as a culture) continue to become less intelligent & thoughtful & more narrow-minded (sort of ironically, since "open-mindedness" is often stressed in issues like this). OK, I'm gonna start talking about Ron Paul if I continue, so I better stop now. ;)

Actually Iowa was before Vermont...same week though...

And I think the point of the Q&A section is to see how poised they can be under pressure.

I think she showed integrity in that her first answer was the truth instead of what she may have thought the judges would have liked to hear...good for her!

but she was poised and still lost -- and (i've heard) favored to win until that answer (but yes, good for her for not just saying what they wanted:)

"popular opinion" doesn't actually support gay marriage - polls say about 2/3 of americans oppose it.
and good for you, miss ca, for sticking to your beliefs.

well, yes, popular opinion according to tv then ;) (so realistic...;)
