I've seen a post like this before. After reading it, I came up with my own:

Mary was merry that she was going to marry her best friend: Mark Merryweather.

Lol...you should play this game with your kids. Mine thought it was hysterical trying to come up with new ones.

Yeah...no. They would probably just end up repeating the same ones over and over and over and over again... We are in the joke telling phase. If I have to hear ONE more knock knock joke or chicken crossing a road joke I may just go insane...

Thank you for this. I may come back to it someday for therapy ideas, if I ever have any ESL students again. I had difficulty with some of them on my first reading though. For "The farm was used to produce produce," for instance, I read "used to" as "I used to..." They could've had one for that too. :)

Hehe, I like that idea for a game too, but I understand, HM. :) As for your suggestion, we talked about "I will be merry when I marry Mary" in my voice class (I think) in grad school, and one girl (from New York) said all three slightly different! It was hard for me to hear the difference though. Then again, I pronounce "caught" and "cot" basically the same.
