No Thank You, Nook...

I don't care how heavy they are. I don't care if they supposedly kill trees. I don't care if they don't have a well-lit screen. Nothing beats the smell of printed paper and leather, and the tingle in your fingers when you turn the first page of a new book. You can't smell a Nook.

Now I have to look up what a "nook" is...

Oh...it's like a kindle.

I agree...nothing beats a good old fashioned book. Plus, I would think a real book is better for your eyesight.

Did you hear that they are closing down Borders? Quite sad...:-(

Well, the president said he would help to close down our borders... (Sorry, couldn't resist!)

the smell of a new book is one of the best smells in the world. in addition to hobbitsister's nap-scented candle, i would also like to buy a new-book-scented candle.
plus also, i spend too much time in front of screens as it is (and trying to read long things online hurts my eyes after awhile). wouldn't it be better for my eyes to read a real book.
plus also, turning pages is a wonderful feeling.
plus also, for the really heavy books i wear wrist braces.
take that, you nook people.

Somebody next to me at church recently was using a Nook or Kindle or something to look up the Bible passage we were on. There wasn't any glare; it was weird how it did really look like the print on a page. I thought it seemed pretty convenient. But yeah, I wouldn't want to do away with books entirely! I think it's helpful to have something tangible to look through and all that -- if you're like me, you remember a quote was on the left side or something like that, which is helpful later. :) Sometimes. ;)

I agree that books are the best. However, Kindle can store more chapter books than a book bag and take up less space than a fully packed book bag. That is our oldest's winning argument for letting her get an iPod Touch--the Kindle application that comes with an iPod Touch. Considering all our relatives are a 2+ day journey by car and our kids are all voracious readers, Kindles will cone in handy someday.
